Negotiation tips from the desk

Every savings lever comes with tips and an opening line you can use. Here are three of them.

BuyerPro tipsCompetitive re-tender

Run a fresh RFQ or e-auction against a clear specification.

“We're running a competitive process this quarter and would like your best proposal.”
  • Invite at least three qualified suppliers, including one new entrant
  • Publish the evaluation criteria up front, so bidders compete on what matters
BuyerPro tipsPayment terms trade

Trade faster payment for an early-payment discount, or longer terms for cash.

“If we paid in 15 days instead of 60, what discount could you offer?”
  • Know your finance team's cost of cash before offering faster payment
  • Ask for the discount as a percentage of invoice, applied automatically
BuyerPro tipsSpecification review

Remove over-specification, standardize items or approve equivalents.

“If we accepted a standard equivalent here, what would that do to price and lead time?”
  • Ask the supplier for ideas. They often know where the spec is costly
  • Share part of the saving with the supplier to keep them motivated

Built to keep confidential data out

Only use public, personal, original, synthetic, licensed or already fully sanitized information. BuyerPro never asks for your employer's, suppliers' or customers' confidential data, and it does not clean it up for you.

  • You agree to the data rules when you start, and again every 7 days.
  • Every field is checked for confidentiality markings, emails, phone numbers, bank and contract numbers.
  • The server checks again before anything is saved to the cloud, and refuses the save if it finds a match.
  • No AI reads what you type. All calculations run in your browser.
